Title: Thinking through Drawing
Date & Time: 18 November 2025, 10:30–11:30
Where: Faculty of Art and Design, International Balkan University
Target group: Students of Graphic Design and Visual Communication
Collaboration with prof. Laze Tripkov

Lecture Description

Thinking through drawing. Drawing offers a space in which we can slow down and engage in a mode of thinking that is both reflective and embodied. Recent societal challenges have highlighted the importance of attentiveness to everyday events — to pauses, sensory awareness, and the “here and now.” As an intimate gesture, drawing remains one of the most direct artistic media, allowing creators to respond sensitively to the unfolding of both grand and subtle histories.

The presentation focuses on drawing as a research medium. It includes interpretations of works by Czech artist Jan Pfeiffer (Movement of Metal, 2015), Austrian artist Jasmin Schaitl (Reciprocity, 2021), and Lithuanian artist Marija Griniuk (Techno-Diving into Reflexive Painting, 2022), all presented at Altán Klamovka Gallery in Prague. These projects are further contextualized within a broader framework of international exhibitions in Stockholm, Los Angeles, Valletta (Malta), and Recess (Ireland).

Title: Thinking Through Drawing: Nonverbal Communication and Material and Body Expression
Date & Time: 18 November 2025, 12:00–13:30

Workshop Description

The workshop explores drawing as a mode of nonverbal communication and a tool for embodied thinking. Participants investigate drawing beyond representation — as a medium expressing perception, emotion, and personal or collective experience. Through experimental and interdisciplinary exercises, the workshop links drawing with performative gestures.

Students work with accessible materials (paper and  the body) and approach drawing as an open, time-based, sensory act rather than a static image.

The workshop examines the concept of personal joy through the creation and transformation of pictographic signs, combining drawing, embodied action, and spatial interaction.
