Space C, Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta, Malta
14. 11. 2024 - 12. 1. 2025

Artist: Jan Pfeiffer
Curator: Lenka Sýkorová

The exhibition with the title Search for Happiness is a seemingly simple metaphor conceived as a physical spatial experience in gallery space. The quest for happiness, joy and fulfilment is like an endless journey that has its ups and downs. In the drawing installation, Jan Pfeiffer also works with the concept of expected future events and the struggle not to be dominated by visions of the future, but to focus on the possibility of being here and now. The exhibition is created for the exhibition space Space C, Spazju Kreattiv. The installation is preceded by a video performance, a collaborative effort between artist Jan Pfeiffer and students from the Department of Arts, Open Communities and Adult Education at the Faculty of Education of the University of Malta.

The exhibition "Green Body" thoroughly explores the boundaries of corporality and spirituality, which have long been accentuated, analysed and transformed in her work. The exhibition is a cross-section of her work. The concept of presence is viewed from the position of the intimacy of corporeality in its purity and vulnerability. The artist also grasps corporeality from the perspective of Christian spirituality and consciously moves between the media of painting, object, installation, photography, performance and interaction with the audience.

Artist: Veronika Holcová
Curator: Lenka Sýkorová

The divide between day and night accompanies man throughout his whole life. To interpret the state of being as an interplay of the heart, reason and will, we can use as a metaphor a sailor or a wanderer representing reason and sailing or walking through a landscape shaped by the currents of the sea or the horizons of the landscape. We can picture these currents as the feeling heart and the sails and rudder as the will to set out on a journey. Veronika Holcová's artwork is a combination of landscape and figurative motifs. She presents us with dreamy landscapes that open up to us at the time between day and night or by being present, where we are able to experience a given moment and place with a certain release and openness toward inner worlds. In Veronika Holcova's artwork, we can imaginatively sail through the inner landscapes of the soul.

The exhibition project of Cameron Tauschke (born 1971 in Melbourne), an Australian artist who is based in Berlin, is represented by paintings and drawings from the Valleys of the heart series. The artist is inspired and fascinated by touching statements, such as “follow your heart”, “hand on heart” or “heart is our guiding light and the best teacher”. At the same time, he is fascinated by the world of mountaineers who need natural discipline, faith and patience to successfully scale mountain summits, for the path to the summit is always full of setbacks and dangers - just like our life journey. It is the “follow your heart” and “put your heart into doing things” that is the main message of the exhibition.

The resulting canvases, folded into an object in the size of a human figure, visually make the viewer to closely examine them. In detail, they reveal universal, yet deeply human gestures, in the form of the precise anatomical drawing of the figure. She also uses the sculptural technique of a relief and three-dimensional objects. It is this variability of painting, sculpture or drawing that the artist examines, while reflecting on the contemporary mimetic game that we all experience every day in the flood of images both in a public space and in an Internet space in our mobile phones or laptops, which often presents us with a misleading reality of the human body.

The times in which we live are characterised by the overuse of cultural historical symbols becoming empty phrases. The resulting impulses show that the Christian tradition, which is part of our European identity, is often an nonchalant empty phrase. Petr Dub’s installation processes this moment of emptying cultural patterns related to the theme of masculine conquest of women against the background of medieval chivalric culture.

The dynamics and variability that are typical for the times we live in are reflected in the new curatorial concept. What our entire society has in common is lifelong questioning of our existence. The newly restored curtain of the Turnov theater thus creates for us an imaginary backdrop for the game of life, in front of which individual human destinies take place. It is often irony, which is so characteristic for art, that facilitates our lightness of being and helps us to overcome our personal and societal life challenges.

Thinking through drawing, in which Slovak artists Slavomíra Ondrušová and Svätopluk Mikyta present themselves. The exhibition emphasizes the immediacy and variability of drawing, participation and extended interpretations of the author's worlds of both artists.

The path to oneself is taken through being present in the here and now. The last pandemic year has given us plenty of time to think and has taught us humility. Reality seemed incomprehensible and distant as if time had stopped. The silence, which we were hardly seeking before the pandemic, appeared in that ability to cherish the present moment. I have prepared a curatorial concept for the Festival 4 + 4 days in motion, which follows my research on contemporary drawing as the most direct art medium.

In examining the world and searching for the meaning of life, in Part II of his classical book Labyrinth of the World and Paradise of the Heart John Amos Comenius suggests to look into our own heart, where most of us will find adequate answers. It was this intimate turmoil that inspired Markéta Hlinovská’s and Veronika Holcová’s exhibition.
