The exhibition Places of Attention: Ruins of Reason, Roots of Renewal presents drawings and video by Maltese artist Raphael Vella that explore the end of one civilizational order and the beginning of a possible new one. It highlights the tension between the call for transformation and the habit of postponing solutions to current crises. In Vella's drawings, the halls of the Parliament are transformed into abandoned ruins, where plants, roots, and trees grow among the debris. The transformation of human rationality under the weight of criticism of the anthropocentric view of democracy appears here as a natural process of transition—a return to the earth, to nature, to the foundations of life. The exhibition emphasizes drawing as a medium of reflection and resistance.
The exhibition was created as part of a workshop and collaboration between the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, University of West Bohemia, and the University of Malta.
